Ecological Clerk of Works Duration - 12 Months Location - YorkshireSummary Our client, a leading utilities company, is currently seeking an Ecological Clerk of Works to join their team on a Fixed Term Contract basis. This exciting opportunity will contribute to the construction phase of a high voltage direct current (HVDC) electrical project, set to commence in July 2025.EGL2 is a 2GW high voltage direct current (HVDC) electrical 'superhighway' cable link to be built between Peterhead in Aberdeenshire, Scotland and Drax in North Yorkshire, England. The construction phase of the project is due to commence in July 2025, with intrusive surveys beginning October 2024. This role will be based within our team who are managing the southern onshore sections of the works (convertor station construction and associated wider works at Drax in North Yorkshire and 69km of onshore cables which are to be installed along a route arising from Fraisthorpe in the East Riding of Yorkshire and ending at the Drax convertor station site).The role will begin in December 2024, and comprises working on-site Monday to Friday ensuring that the survey & construction phases of the works adhere to any ecological regulatory, planning and/or licensing requirements. The role will report into the Project Management team but will also have links to the Land and Consents teams and the Environment and Sustainability teams.The main duties of the role will be to oversee ecological compliance to regulatory, planning and/or licensing conditions throughout the construction phase of the works, and any associated legislation during surveys advising on any ecological constraints and mitigation solutions, assisting the team in planning and mitigating for nay changing ecological conditions and reporting any finding and trends to the project team.Key Accountabilities:* Ensure the implementation of, and compliance with, the ecological provisions of the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) and the ecological mitigation contained within the project Environmental Statements (ES). * Ensure compliance with any licensing, planning, regulatory or other ecological conditions and constraints imposed on the project. * Provide onsite proactive, specialist guidance and advice regarding on site ecology and ecological conditions, e.g., protected and invasive species, habitats etc. * Review RAMS, oversee works and recommend actions as appropriate, including temporarily stopping works where non-compliant working is observed,* Undertake regular project inspections and checks on site against applicable ecological regulatory requirements, planning conditions and associated documents. Investigate all non-conformances and record, communicate and monitor the completion of any identified actions.* Identify any trends within the project's ecological performance and feed these back to the project team.* Provide specialist input into incident investigation reviews and ensure all resulting actions are implemented across the relevant areas of the project. * Work closely with other disciplines on the project e.g., environment and sustainability, archaeologists and engineers to assist in the project delivery.* Be a visible advocate for the project SHESQ culture and play a key part in the project's success.Knowledge:* Experience of monitoring ecological mitigation and compliance on construction projects.* An understanding of ecological management in a construction context and working experience of advising and assisting with a wide range of ecological issues such as de-vegetation works, protected species surveys and mitigation etc.* An understanding of the environmental impact assessment legislation, policy and guidance.* Good broad knowledge of environmental and ecological laws which may be relevant to the project, e.g., wildlife and countryside act etc.* Experience of influencing staff at all levels and being able to communicate this both written and verbally.* The need to be well organised, pro-active, reliable and willingness to travel across the project, five days a week.Qualifications:* Degree or Diploma in an Environmental discipline or a relevant qualification.* Full valid UK driving licence.* Membership in CIEEM, IEMA, or equivalent (desirable).If you are a dedicated Ecological Clerk of Works looking to contribute to a major utilities project, our client offers an exciting opportunity for professional growth and development.
