The Role

As a Production Planner, you'll be responsible for developing and managing detailed production schedules, ensuring that customer orders are delivered on time, and that production flows efficiently and effectively. Working closely with the materials team, procurement, and shop floor, you'll help balance demand with capacity and resources.

You'll play a key part in improving planning processes, supporting ERP/MRP implementation, and driving operational performance through data-driven planning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create, maintain, and communicate detailed production schedules in line with customer demand and material availability.

  • Work with procurement and material planners to ensure timely availability of components and raw materials.

  • Coordinate with production and operations teams to ensure the schedule is understood, realistic, and achievable.

  • Monitor work-in-progress (WIP) and highlight risks to on-time delivery; escalate issues and propose solutions.

  • Support the ongoing implementation and optimisation of MRP/ERP tools for production planning and scheduling.

  • Analyse production performance, schedule adherence, and downtime trends to drive improvements.

  • Maintain accurate planning data in ERP systems, including routings, lead times, and work order status.

  • Assist with capacity planning and scenario modelling to support customer project timelines and business growth.

  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve scheduling accuracy, reduce lead times, and optimise throughput.

About You
  • Previous experience in a production planning, scheduling, or operations coordination role within a manufacturing environment.

  • Understanding of production processes in low volume, high value environments (e.g., aerospace, defense, complex assemblies).

  • Strong working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and production planning principles.

  • Proficient in Excel - able to work with planning models, reports, and data analysis tools.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to coordinate between teams and manage priorities.

  • Detail-oriented, highly organised, and able to manage multiple tasks and timelines.

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a proactive, problem-solving mindset.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience supporting or working within an ERP/MRP implementation.

  • Exposure to project-based or engineered-to-order production environments.

  • Familiarity with Lean, 5S, or continuous improvement methodologies.
