About the role:

To ensure that all daily contracted tasks are carried out in line with the Council Contract, maximizing productivity and minimizing service failure and resident complaints. Management of the day-to-day operational service through efficient deployment of staff and equipment to ensure productivity and quality KPIs are achieved whilst ensuring that health and safety and environmental standards are maintained. To supervise in a timely and efficient manner, the work, equipment, materials and staffing required to achieve this objective

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate staff tasks promptly.
  • Ensure efficient daily service organization and staffing levels.
  • Brief and deploy staff effectively to meet KPIs.
  • Monitor task progress to ensure schedules are met, including:
  • Monitor Whitespace/IT systems and address performance issues.
  • Reallocate resources as needed for underperforming teams.
  • Verify task completion (e.g., missed bins, road cleanliness).
  • Respond to breakdowns and liaise with the fleet manager.
  • Report service issues to the Operations Manager.
  • Debrief staff and address task failures.
  • Plan next-day tasks, ensuring resources, vehicles, and equipment are ready.
  • Ensure staff training and safe equipment operation.
  • Monitor attendance, timekeeping, and performance:
  • Update Cascade records.
  • Follow absence procedures.
  • Manage holidays to maintain service.
  • Enforce performance management.
  • Submit overtime claims for authorization.
  • Conduct 5% service quality checks.
  • Manage absence reviews, disciplinary actions, and grievances per policy.
  • Oversee PPE allocation and consult the Operations Manager as needed.
  • Handle reactive maintenance to minimize downtime and find root causes.
  • Ensure PPM compliance with the Fleet Manager; escalate issues as needed.
  • Monitor daily vehicle checks and report defects to R&M providers.
  • Ensure driver's hours compliance and proper records.
  • Address Council inquiries with the Operations Manager.
  • Adhere to Health, Safety, HR, Quality, and Environmental policies.
  • Conduct weekly crew and gate checks.
  • Promote safety culture and ensure staff follow legal and company safety requirements.

About you:

Essentials

  • Good timekeeping.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong people management skills.
  • Previous supervisory management experience.
  • Managing staff in a direct labour environment.
  • Managing client relations.
  • Managing performance metrics
  • Previous experience in waste management services, particularly in local authority.
  • Knowledge of environmental service vehicles and how they operate, including maintenance practices.
  • Previous experience with service specific IT platforms.
  • Managing client relations with a local authority client.
  • COTC
  • CPC
  • IOSH
  • Class 2 HGV license with up-to-date driver CPC
