Our client is looking for an experienced practitioner with a minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience as a social worker. You will be responsible for managing a caseload of complex, high-need cases within a child protection setting, requiring you to take initiative in supporting children and families. You will also mentor and provide guidance to team members, including offering advice, support, and occasional shadowing during visits or meetings. The role is likely to involve court-related work.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage complex cases, including court-involved work, ensuring child safety and long-term well-being.

  • Build trusting relationships with children, ensuring their views inform plans to improve their safety and outcomes.

  • Use Signs of Safety to assess risks, strengths, and needs, creating plans that involve family and professional networks.

  • Work in diverse and complex situations involving mental health, disability, domestic abuse, poverty, and exploitation.

  • Apply theories like child development, attachment, trauma, and abuse cycles to understand childrens experiences.

  • Conduct regular visits, update assessments, and implement and review plans as circumstances change.

  • Lead or support child protection inquiries, chair meetings (core groups, child-in-need reviews), and make recommendations regarding safeguarding actions.

  • Maintain case records accurately and in line with council policies, procedures, and legal frameworks.

  • Reflect on practice through supervision, audits, and feedback to continuously improve.

  • Occasionally cover for managers and contribute to service improvements when required.

Learning & Development

  • To regularly review and reflect on professional practice along with colleagues and your line manager to identify areas of further professional learning and development.

  • To enrol and engage in regular training and learning opportunities, both internally and externally, in order to promote further professional development and practice.

  • To identify and engage in opportunities to share professional practice and experience with other colleagues, students and professionals to promote an ongoing learning environment.

  • To help identify and support any learning and development needs for workers in the team.



The location is well connected by train, and road and is easily accessible and commutable from nearby boroughs.
