PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOBTo be the main person responsible for the safe and efficient serving of evening meals, drinks; occasionally other snacks and setting up and clearing away required for these meals. Cleaning and tidying of storage areas, service areas and kitchen as required. Some food preparation and general support of the chefs may also be required prior to dinner.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • To set up dining areas ready for evening meals.
  • Assist chefs with any tasks needed for the meal
  • To help serve dinners alongside another catering assistant each day (Mon-Thu), ensuring anyone with dietary requirements are served the correct meal (support and training will be provided to correctly identify these). Dinner formats are slightly different each day, some are served from a bain-marie, others 'family style’ in sharing dishes delivered to the dining room tables.
  • Washing up of pots/pans etc., and washing, drying and putting away of clean crockery/cutlery/glassware etc.
  • Cleaning down kitchen, emptying bins etc., and closing up each night.
  • On Fridays to assist with thoroughly deep cleaning kitchen and service equipment.
  • To maintain the required level of hygiene standards as laid down both legally and in the kitchen.
  • To carry out or attend any training as required.
  • To support colleagues at all times to ensure team work and discipline are maintained.
  • On a daily basis liaise with the Head Chef to the duties needed to be carried out.
  • Assist in keeping up to date records in compliance with due diligence.
  • To comply with and act in accordance with all school fire regulations and to adhere to the school’s fire policy.
  • To arrive at work at the correct time and in the correct uniform ensuring it is in immaculate condition.
  • To behave in a friendly and hospitable manner.

PERSON SPECIFICATION ESSENTIAL

  • A flair and enthusiasm for food.
  • Ability to cope under pressure, in a calm and efficient manner to set deadlines
  • A warm and friendly personality
  • High standards of cleanliness, tidiness and hygiene

DESIRABLE

  • Food hygiene certificate to Level 2
  • Some understanding of food allergies/intolerances, particularly the presence of allergens in foods
  • Experience in the catering industry at some level
