Jackson Hogg are supporting a leading manufacturer in the Teesside area with their search to add to their technical department.

The mechanical design engineer will be part of a team of engineers responsible for the design, development, testing and introduction of new products. They will design components and systems using SolidWorks and other design tools in a range of materials and considering a wide range of manufacturing processes from aluminium casting to plastic injection moulding.

Engineers are involved in all stages of development and will participate in prototyping, testing and initial factory builds. Developing and maintaining document records like 2D drawings, specifications, standards the engineering BOMs is an integral part of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Solve complex engineering problems using mechanical engineering principles including the definition of materials
  • Use 3D and 2D CAD to generate models and drawings of components and assemblies
  • Use FEA to analyse design performance
  • Create and maintain bills of materials
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to achieve objectives
  • Create specifications that can be used in the procurement of bought out components
  • Work closely with manufacturing engineers and suppliers to ensure product feasibility
  • Building and testing of prototypes and engineering samples

Essential

  • Degree in mechanical engineering or commensurate experience in a similar role
  • 3D and 2D CAD software competency (SolidWorks or similar)
  • Experience with a PDM system (SolidWorks, Teamcenter or similar)
  • Understanding and application of GD&T
  • Component and or assembly design
  • Understanding of design for manufacture
  • Understanding of design for cost
  • Practical (hands-on) engineering/mechanical skills
  • FEA/CAE
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  • Excellent teamworking skill
