We are currently seeking 2 x interim Construction Safety Leads, to work with our global FMCG client Unilever, renowned for brands such as Dove, Sure, Persil, and Simple, and become an integral part of their fast-paced FMCG environment.
The position is based in Port Sunlight Village, Wirral easily accessible by train and car. This is a full-time temporary role to run for 14 months with a possible opportunity to extend, requiring 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Compensation for this role is competitive, paying up to 48,750 per annum, pro rata, depending upon experience.
The role is full time on site and may include possible weekend work in which time will be given back.
Main job purpose
The successful applicant will work on major projects covering many areas across the site including process, packing and warehouse. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring the project and contractor teams are working to the highest construction safety standards whilst adhering to existing systems and processes. The role will be very much focused on supporting a large installation schedule ensuring all aspects of construction safety are being completed to the required standards and lifting the sites processes to best in class on a top Tier COMAH site.
Key Accountabilities
- Ensure all projects are delivered in line with the Unilever construction safety standards and local requirements such as CDM
- Complete Work Permits for site works as is required by the project timelines. Reviewing RAMS provided by contractors ensuring any risks are fully mitigated to acceptable levels.
- Ensure all safety standards and procedures are understood and followed in all areas. This will involve training (toolbox talks etc) and the use of auditing tools/processes.
- Complete regular safety conversations and DCA's as per the required schedule, following up on actions to ensure robust close out.
- Track contractor safety performance and report to Project Team
- Communicate site works with Operational Team on regular basis, attend daily and weekly update meetings as required
- Lead or support in safety investigations ensuring all learnings are cascaded correctly to the site teams.
- Hold all personnel (Unilever and contractors) accountable to following the correct safety standards and policies across the site.
- Collate and drive Contractor KPI's holding the relevant Contractors responsible for improvement activity to meet all agreed targets.
- Track contractor hours and report to Construction Safety Leader
- Ensure PSL is working at best in class construction safety standards
Essential experience required:
- IOSH Managing Safely Qualification is essential.
- NEBOSH Qualification is beneficial but not an essential.
- MS Excel & Word experience essential
- High level of understanding of construction safety regulations.
- Experience of being involved in large projects involving high risk activities and actively driving safety standards in the area.
- Experience of writing work permits, method statements and risk assessments in a detailed manner.
- Experience in Inspections and Audits and Managing non-conformance.
Areas of relevant experience: Leading safety initiatives on a manufacturing site.
