Robertson Bell is excited to be working with a prominent central government body to recruit a Financial Accountant on a permanent basis. This is a key role within the financial accounting team, providing technical accounting expertise and supporting the delivery of a complex year-end process, tax compliance and continuous process improvement.
In this role, you will:
- Support the preparation of the organisation’s statutory accounts, including consolidation returns.
- Maintain and analyse accurate accounting records, including reconciliations and relevant journal entries.
- Monitor and review key financial controls, including those operated by outsourced providers.
- Prepare and submit VAT and CIS returns in line with deadlines.
- Assist with the delivery of internal and external audits by providing clear, well-evidenced support and liaising with Auditors.
- Champion process improvement, identifying ways to streamline systems and reporting procedures.
- Build strong relationships across Finance and the wider organisation to ensure the relevance and effectiveness of financial information.
This is a hybrid role offering flexible working and requires you to travel into Birmingham once a week. The successful candidate will:
- Be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Have solid experience in financial accounting and financial reporting.
- Possess strong knowledge of VAT and experience preparing tax returns.
- Be confident in interpreting large volumes of financial data and spotting anomalies.
- Be a proactive learner who enjoys solving problems and improving systems.
- Have experience working with ERP systems and be proficient in Excel.
