Our client is seeking a Service Charge Accountant to join their dynamic team in Birmingham. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead a dedicated cost management team, overseeing invoice approvals, service charge budgeting, and reporting. The successful candidate will be the main point of escalation for clients and will work closely with property managers and the wider estates team. What you'll do:

As a Service Charge Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in managing the financial aspects of our client's operations. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include approving invoices, challenging budget increases, signing off on high-level service charge budgets, and creating monthly reports. You will also manage cost team mailboxes, support property managers, complete quarterly KPIs, and liaise with various teams to ensure smooth running of accounts. Your leadership skills will be crucial in holding regular meetings with your team members and property managers to resolve any issues.

  • Approve invoices daily ensuring they are loaded to the ERP system for weekly payment runs
  • Challenge any budget increases over 10% and any ad hoc service charge requests outside of budgets
  • Sign off on high-level service charge budgets after thorough checking of all budget and apportionment information
  • Refer high-level service charge challenges to property managers for final approval and sign off
  • Update the service charge master spreadsheet and create monthly reports from budget approvals
  • Manage cost team mailboxes as the main point of escalation for clients
  • Support property managers and the wider estates team by providing necessary information/documents
  • Complete quarterly KPIs for ad hoc invoice processing times and send them to the client accounting team
