RM Recruit is proud to be partnering with an outstanding not-for-profit organisation in their search for a confident Assistant Accountant specialising in rent and service charges. This role is primarily remote, with occasional monthly attendance at their Birmingham office. This is a full-time, three-month fixed-term contract position with the potential for extension, making it ideal for a candidate who is immediately available or can start on short notice.
Reporting directly to the Head of Rent & Service Charge, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the accurate provision of accounting information and budget setting related to rent for the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support operational teams by analysing and reporting on void loss.
- Ensure property information is accurately recorded to facilitate rent performance reporting and the production of accurate rents.
- Assist in regularly reviewing and updating rent accounting processes and controls to ensure they remain robust, effective, and fit for purpose.
- Oversee the accurate setting of rents, including managing the production of rent budgets, reporting budget-to-actual variances, short-term forecasting, and producing rent reconciliations.
- Produce bad debt provision calculations for rents and support operational teams with bad debt write-offs in line with current financial regulations.
- Provide KPI and financial information to the Board, Executive, Leadership Teams, and the wider organization.
- Produce rent income forecasts, liaising with all relevant teams.
- Assist on the internal and external audit of Rent income.
- Provide support to resident facing teams for Rents.
- Assist with the provision of monthly and quarterly management account information for Rents including variance notes for the Group.
The ideal candidate will be ACCA or CIMA part-qualified with experience in a similar role. While previous exposure to the charity or housing sector is highly desirable, candidates from other industries will also be considered. A strong track record of delivering results in a dynamic, fast-paced environment is essential, along with experience managing rents in a regulated setting. Comprehensive knowledge of rent legislation and the ability to build strong, collaborative team relationships are key requirements.
