Renowned for their constant innovation, the company offer a complete solution that includes their own on-site compounding and tooling facilities, as well as modern injection moulding and compression moulding capabilities.

Role Overview:

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, the Design & Development Engineer is a customer facing and technical position, which will play a key role in the creation, enhancement and optimization of rubber-based products in the manufacturing portfolio.  The key focus is to help the company diversify its market sector and customer base by developing bespoke rubber solutions.  The strategy is underpinned by continued investment in new machines and technology.

Responsibilities:

·    Review different industries that the company could supply products into.  Conduct competitive product analysis and provide possible solutions that the sales team can promote to prospective customers.
·    Respond to technical enquiries by visiting customers, discussing their requirement, consulting on possible solutions and using internal resources to present options.
·    Work with commercial team to produce proposals and costings, and help present back to the customer with the objective of building engagement.
·    Develop and refine product designs with customers to aid in the development of tooling, considering factors such as materials and performance requirements.
·    Using CAD Software and other design tools, create product drawings, tool designs and specifications to produce prototypes.
·    Sourcing tools and components through external suppliers.
·    Provide customer support, understanding their requirements and refining product concepts.
·    Work alongside sales to bring customer vision to life.
·    Maintain detailed documentation, design specifications and testing procedures. 
·    Cross functional communication ensuring all involved are knowledgeable of project progress.

Candidate Profile:

·    Technically adept experienced mechanical design engineer.
·    Degree educated in engineering or related technical discipline.
·    Customer facing and capable presenting consultative technical solutions.
·    Proven design and development experience with rubber and polymers.
·    Experience with product and tooling design.
·    Proficiency in CAD with other design tools.
·    Knowledge of rubber materials.
·    Some European travel.
