Product Engineer
Main purpose of the job
Product Engineers are expected to take full responsibility for a set of interior components from initial design concept, through detailed design, tooling and pre-production builds, to launch.
Monitoring and developing changes to the product initiated by the customer or the Artifex design team. Translation of these changes to production while maintaining the quality requirements and monitoring of timing and costs
Ensuring that all Product /APQP requirements are covered.
Liaises with the tooling and manufacturing specialists to ensure that the product is designed with manufacturing and assembly in mind.
Main missions and results
Responsible for the process -from start to implementation- to prepare new parts/products to be ready for production.
Responsible for implementation of technical changes to existing parts / products, defining and applying the most appropriate and cost-effective solutions and timings for these.
Liaison between Artifex, the customer and suppliers for matters regarding the engineering and implementation of new parts or product changes.
Responsible for all associated documentation (DFMEAs, SCSSs, 2d Drawings etc.)
Ensuring detailed specifications and tolerances are conveyed to sub suppliers.
Guarantee that product design guidelines in terms of assembly, production and quality have been considered.
Support and lead problem solving activities which occur during the product development phase of the programme.
Advise on technical requirements and consequences of "engineering changes".
Support customers in product development and participate in product development meetings to ensure that key elements of the quality process are taken into account.
Participates in the departmental meetings.
Responsible for the engineering elements of customer part approval (PPAP).
Support tool trials & tool sign off.
Data driven approach to product design incorporating finite element and dimensional variation analysis to ensure robust designs.
Support VAVE activities.
Support Program RFQs.
Preferred skills and experience
Master or Bachelor in a technical department.
Proven related experience in design/engineering of automotive interior components/systems.
Experience in a (plastics) production and / or an assembly environment, linked to automotive.
Working knowledge of job-related technical skills: GD&T, DFM/DFA, CAE/FEA, CAD, FMEA, DVP&R.
Personal competences: communicative, assertive, organisationally and analytically strong.
Problem solver, team player that is also able to work independently and in stressful circumstances.
Computer knowledge: Windows Office, drawing programs, CAD.
Additional knowledge: knowledge of injection moulding, tooling, Pro Link.
Awareness of continuous improvement.
