Are you an experienced or qualified BSL (British Sign Language) Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting deaf pupils in their education and personal development? We are seeking a dedicated individual to join a specialist school in Birmingham, which provides a nurturing and inclusive environment tailored to the needs of deaf students.

About the Role:

As a BSL Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting deaf pupils to access the curriculum and thrive both academically and socially. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Using British Sign Language to facilitate communication between pupils, staff, and peers.
  • Supporting students in small group and 1:1 settings, adapting learning materials to meet individual needs.
  • Promoting independence and self-confidence in deaf learners.
  • Assisting in the planning and delivery of engaging lessons alongside class teachers.
  • Encouraging a positive and inclusive classroom environment.

What We're Looking For:

  • A recognised qualification in British Sign Language (minimum Level 2, Level 3+ preferred).
  • Previous experience working with deaf children or young people in an educational or similar setting.
  • A compassionate and patient approach, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to supporting the social, emotional, and academic development of deaf pupils.
  • Knowledge of the unique challenges faced by deaf learners and the ability to address them effectively
