Location: EiBs Bid Hubs are in central Birmingham and Edinburgh. We offer a flexible working model aligned to our clients needs and expectations combining smart home working with on-site support at client locations throughout the UK and Europe. There is no need to relocate.

Starting salary: £28,000, with the opportunity to rise to £40,000 upon completion of the programme.

What is a bid writer?

If government wants a new strategic road built, or a council needs a specialist nursing service to provide child healthcare within its local authority, they will put the work out to tender. This means that companies need to submit a bid demonstrating how they would deliver the works. This will include questions like:

  • What social value will you bring to the project to improve the lives of the community?
  • Explain your innovations to improving the health and safety of your staff and customers?

As a bid writer at EiB, you will work with our clients to answer these questions. You write the responses in a compelling, persuasive manner that meets the evaluation criteria and requirements of the tender. It is like essay-writing, with the reward of winning your clients work that makes a tangible difference to the world around you.

About you:

You will be committed to helping our clients prepare and produce the most inspiring and successful bids in the industry. You are a flexible and motivated individual driven to further develop your skills and progress within a growing company.

With excellent writing and editing skills, you can produce engaging and compelling content. You have strong organisational and time management skills, able to meet client deadlines. With experience of undertaking research and multitasking, you can prioritise workload while demonstrating a high attention to detail.

Essential skills include:

  • Strong academic record and educated to degree level (especially in an Arts or Social Science subject)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with an extensive vocabulary
  • Close attention to detail with exceptional editing and proof-reading ability
  • Capable presenter, able to communicate ideas and share learning
  • Strong research ability with skills in analysing documents and data
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft office suite.

Desirable skills include:

  • Knowledge of graphic production
  • Use of Mac platforms and devices
  • Knowledge of public procurement processes.

The role:

In this role you will gain experience in bid writing, research, and project management. You will be supporting the production and creation of high-quality, engaging bid submissions to meet strict deadlines. This role includes:

  • Working within a team and with clients to storyboard and write bids in line with client specifications
  • Editing, reviewing, and challenging documents to improve and contribute to the overall submission
  • Staying abreast of updates and developments within a specialist market
  • Keeping up to date with bid writing competitors
  • Leading and coordinating internal projects which add value to the business.

The EiB graduate programme:

You will complete a two-year graduate programme, led by our Professional Head of Graduate Development, supported by the wider business. Over the course of the two-year programme, you will have access to a wealth of knowledge from experts within the industry and gain valuable experience across a wide range of sectors (including construction, rail, highways, and health) to establish core bid writing skills. The programme will provide you with the skills and competencies required to become a bid writer, as well as support you in developing the skills required for project management and coordination.

In year one you will develop your understanding of the bidding process, the various sectors we work in and the clients we work with. You will develop a thorough understanding of the EiB Way and approach to managing end-to-end bids, applying this knowledge to managing a series of internal projects. You will work on several end-to-end bids, fully supported by a team of experienced bid writers, and bid managers.

As you progress into the second year of your graduate programme, you will have achieved the skills required to be a competent bid writer and will further develop by working on more complex bids, crafting compelling and technical responses. Alongside your on-the-job learning, you will complete your APMP Foundation certification (12 months) and work towards your APMP Practitioner certification (three years), formally recognising your ongoing professional development.
