Senior Business Development Manager

With over with 23 sites across the UK, the group are a leading operator of sustainable, compliance-led, waste recycling, recovery, treatment & disposal services.

Role:

Reporting to the Commercial Head of Construction Wastes, you will drive business development and sales activities for the construction division optimising the price and volume mix, for construction wastes such as contaminated soils, filter cakes and asbestos, you will also manage and deliver strategic commercial projects. The role will involve extensive travelling throughput the UK.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and develop a robust pipeline of new business and projects.
  • Mange a direct report.
  • Provide accurate and detailed updates regarding customer performance and pipeline progress.
  • Ensure client understanding of all technical details and materials relevant to company services for waste management, transport, handling, treatment and disposal.
  • Work with Account Managers, Admin Staff and Operations partners to ensure they are provided with full hand over information to ensure they can perform and manage each service/contract.
  • Implement regular price reviews to reflect changing cost, routing, and market positions.
  • Regularly convert quote and PO arrangements to Term Contracts for existing and new customers.
  • Present and write commercial proposals, quotations, functional descriptions, and specifications to customers.
  • Managing the Tender process, reviewing documents, writing tenders, undertaking financial analysis, contract reviews, and following companies Tender Governance procedure.
  • Source and arrange bulk transport, meeting clients’ logistic requirements.
  • Daily updating of CRM and pipelines to maintain accurate opportunity forecasts, details of progress/plans including past activity.
  • Actively lead and participate in the company’s marketing activities.
  • Cross-sell the company’s other services.
  • Keep up to date with market and competitor activities.

Experience & knowledge required:

  • Track record in delivering profitable new business and at the same time delivering high levels of customer service.
  • Logistics knowledge / booking transport experience- understanding what type of vehicle would be required for a certain contract.
  • H&S industry Environmental / compliance knowledge of contaminated soils within construction waste.
  • Ability to cold call/open doors, negotiate and execute deals at strategic/partnering and transactional/tactical levels.
  • Significant experience in managing business processes and projects.
  • Ability to communicate, present and influence key stakeholders at all levels of an organisation.
  • Computer literate with solid experience of CRM software and MS Office.
  • Proven ability to juggle multiple prospects, while maintaining sharp attention to detail.

Essential:

  • Must have a technical understanding / knowledge of soil chemistry.
  • Previous experience within Construction / Demolition waste is essential.
  • Experienced managing a portfolio of customer accounts with sales revenue in excess £1million per annum.
  • MUST be flexible if overnight stays are required, as well as early starts and late finishes to the working day to meet client and business requirements.
  • MUST understand commercial concepts and technically minded.
  • MUST have a track record of delivering profitable new business and at the same time delivering high levels of customer service.
  • Full UK driving licence.
