This role is positioned inside IR35 and entails ensuring new development aligns with Council requirements regarding flood risk and drainage.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring new development meets the requirements of the Council's Local Flood Risk Management Strategy, Flood Risk Assessments, and the Surface Water Management Plan
  • Providing technical advice to colleagues in both Flood Risk Management & Drainage and the Planning Group
  • Offering drainage and flood risk advice concerning development adoptions, planning applications, and planning appeal hearings
  • Ensuring the Council meets its legal responsibilities concerning Sustainable Drainage Systems on both the Highway and in the public realm
  • Delivering Sustainable Drainage System guidance and support to developers, particularly supporting the Council's Development Control function
  • Advising and assisting developers to comply with The Water Environment (Water Framework Directive) (England and Wales) Regulations 2017
  • Collating and providing data for flood risk management audit outcomes to measure compliance


Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of Flood Risk Management, drainage projects, and the maintenance of highway drainage
  • Understanding of legislation covering drainage and highway works
  • Familiarity with the design, detailing, preparation, and letting of contracts and construction supervision of drainage improvement schemes
  • Proficiency in drainage design software and surface water modelling techniques
  • Working knowledge of Sustainable Drainage Systems and the current perspectives on climate change impacts on the urban environment
