PR & Comms Manager (FTC 6 Months) Full time OR 3 Days Contracting Location: BirminghamSalary: £38-£45k Full Time OR  £400 per day ContractingThe Role:We are seeking an experienced and proactive PR & Communications Manager to join our clients in a fast-paced Media and Communications team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in promoting the West Midlands region regionally, nationally, and internationally as a top destination for business and investment. Your focus will be on generating impactful stories that highlight the region’s key sectors of strength and crafting compelling narratives that resonate with both media and business audiences.Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive B2B communications strategy to raise awareness of the region’s key sectors, supporting inward investment and lead generation.
  • Craft and distribute high-quality B2B opinion-editorials, press releases, quotes, thought leadership pieces, and speeches that position the region as a globally leading investment location.
  • Collaborate closely with sector leads and the Business Attraction team to develop sector-focused propositions, messaging, content, and events.
  • Manage the company’s B2B PR agency, overseeing a global media relations programme that builds the region’s profile.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, partners, and investors to identify opportunities for promoting the region’s economic strengths.
  • Monitor, report, and evaluate the effectiveness of the B2B agency and investment communications function, leveraging CRM systems.
  • Support the Corporate Communications Manager with investment messaging, ensuring alignment with corporate narratives.
  • Lead crisis and reactive communications in response to negative news stories or reports affecting the region’s economic strategy.
Key Relationships:
  • Reporting to the Head of Media and Communications, working as part of the central communications team and collaborating closely with the Business Attraction team.
  • Engaging with media, local authorities, commercial partners, and regional investors to promote the region.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Essential:
    • Professional qualification or relevant degree, or equivalent experience.
    • Strong PR agency management skills, including finance and time management.
    • Proven ability to produce compelling B2B communications materials to the highest editorial standards.
    • Team player with strong collaboration skills and the ability to build lasting relationships with key stakeholders.
    • Experience in B2B communication roles, with a focus on promoting sectors such as Tech & Creative, Professional & Financial Services, Advanced Manufacturing, Life Sciences, and Low Carbon.
    • Ability to work agilely in a reactive environment.
    • Experience in pitching to national and international business press.
    • Knowledge of the region’s public and private sector landscape.
    • Experience in trade and investment communications.
    • Experience working with central government departments.
