My client is a leading engineering and construction firm known for delivering high-profile infrastructure projects across the transport sector. As they continue their expansion, my client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Site Manager with a strong background in Civil Engineering to take on the challenge of delivering three new-build railway stations. This role is essential in the commitment to building safe, modern, and efficient transportation hubs that will serve local communities for decades to come.

Role Overview:

As the Site Manager, you will oversee the end-to-end delivery of three railway station new builds. From groundworks to final inspections, you'll ensure every aspect of the projects is completed on time, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards. You will coordinate site operations, manage a diverse team, and serve as the central point of contact for all on-site activities.

A Personal Track Safety (PTS) certification is required for this role, as it involves working within railway environments. Your experience in civil engineering and railway infrastructure will be critical to managing the specific challenges associated with station construction and ensuring compliance with rail safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations across the construction sites, ensuring project milestones are achieved and any issues are promptly resolved.
  • Safety Compliance: Implement, enforce, and monitor health and safety policies on-site, especially those required under the Personal Track Safety (PTS) guidelines. Promote a safe and compliant work environment at all times.
  • Team Coordination: Manage site staff, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure that everyone is aligned and working efficiently. Provide direction, resolve conflicts, and support team members in achieving project goals.
  • Quality Control: Ensure that all works meet the design specifications, civil engineering standards, and regulatory requirements, conducting regular inspections and quality checks.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Act as the primary on-site contact for all project stakeholders, including clients, local authorities, engineers, and senior management. Maintain open communication to provide updates, manage expectations, and address any concerns.
  • Site Logistics: Oversee site setup, material deliveries, and equipment usage. Manage site access and coordinate logistics to minimize disruptions to ongoing operations or the surrounding community.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them, ensuring that safety, quality, and budgetary constraints are met.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
  • Educational Background: Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: Proven experience as a Site Manager on infrastructure or railway projects, preferably in station construction.
  • PTS Certification: Valid Personal Track Safety (PTS) certification is required. Familiarity with Network Rail standards and rail-specific safety protocols is essential.
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, construction methodologies, and railway infrastructure requirements.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage diverse teams in a high-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and decision-making abilities to address complex site challenges proactively.
Desirable Skills and Qualifications:
  • Additional Certifications: SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme)
  • Rail Experience: Experience working directly with rail operators or within the rail industry, with a clear understanding of railway operations and requirements.
