Design Manager Role

The Design Manager will work closely with the Senior Design Manager to support the successful implementation and ongoing management of the design process, ensuring that the design and procurement of specialist packages are delivered to meet project requirements in line with cost and support the project delivery teams by providing design input and cost-effective solutions.

Design Manager - Responsibilities

  • Manage the development and implementation of design proposals ensuring they meet customer requirements including budget constraints, presenting proposals for approval to the customer.
  • Manage and ensure effective briefing of the Design Team including M&E elements. This includes, where necessary, the management of any 3rd parties or novated design teams to ensure that they meet all customer specifications, and where necessary, checking the competence and resources of any incumbent design teams or 3rd parties.
  • Provide advice and guidance on the design proposals to the construction teams on all packages.
  • Liaise with all statutory bodies/authorities as required - such as town planning, building control and services e.g. gas and water.
  • Lead the development and management of the design deliverables programme.
  • Work alongside the Estimating, Project and BIM teams

Design Manager Role - Requirements

  • BSc Construction Management Degree or similar
  • Relevant Professional memberships with either RIBA, BIBSE, IET
  • Proven experience in delivering design services and successfully implementing design strategies
  • Experience from a Tier 1 or Tier 2 Build Main Contractor is essential
  • Able to form effective relationships with partners
  • Valid CSCS Card
  • Excellent numeracy and bid/report writing
