A renowned architecture firm based in the Midlands is seeking an experienced Principal Designer to join their growing team. Known for their innovative designs and commitment to safety and compliance, this firm delivers exceptional projects across various sectors, including residential, commercial, and education.

They are looking for a skilled Principal Designer to bring expertise in design risk management and CDM compliance, working closely with architects, clients, and contractors throughout the project lifecycle.

The Principal Designer Role

As the Principal Designer, you will play a pivotal role in managing health and safety compliance within the design phase, ensuring projects meet CDM 2015 regulations. You will provide guidance on design risk management, lead site inspections, and work collaboratively with project teams to create safe and compliant solutions. Key Principal Designer Responsibilities

  • Lead Principal Designer duties in accordance with CDM 2015 regulations.
  • Conduct design risk assessments and implement hazard elimination strategies.
  • Prepare and review pre-construction information and construction phase plans.
  • Provide expert CDM advice to clients, architects, and contractors.
  • Attend project meetings, site inspections, and audits to ensure health and safety compliance.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to integrate health and safety best practices.
  • Mentor junior team members and support their professional development.

The Principal Designer

  • Degree in architecture, engineering, or a construction-related field.
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent qualification.
  • Professional membership with APS (AaPS, IMaPS, or CMaPS) is desirable.
  • Proven experience as a Principal Designer within the architecture or construction sector.
  • Strong knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations and health and safety standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively and work under tight deadlines.
