The Social Workers Union (SWU) is seeking to appoint a National Organiser and Union Contact Manager to join our small, dedicated team, to lead campaigns promoting trade union principles like equality, fair pay, and training access. You'll drive membership recruitment efforts and represent SWU in collaboration with the General Secretary, SWU Executive, SWU TU officials, BASW and external organisations.

The job description includes -

  • Contribute to the recruitment and retention of new Union Contacts and to assist with the recruitment and retention of new SWU union members.
  • Be active with relevant local and national campaigns.
  • Linking with BASW Advice and Representation / Trade Union Officers re Union Contacts.
  • Linking with Student/ University groups and engage with BASW Branches as a SWU Rep.
  • Linking with BASW Professional Officers and sub groups.
  • Lead/support national and local campaigns and research projects.

The role allows for remote working, but access is offered as a key holder to any SPACES / REGUS UK work zones if local to an applicant. The position is home-based with some occasional travel required across the UK for employer visits, events and to the SWU head office in Birmingham.

We are seeking candidates who demonstrate substantial experience and knowledge of Trade Unions, their purpose and activities, a strong commitment to trade union values and social justice, experience of leading local or national campaigns, along with possessing excellent organisational and communication skills. The ideal candidate should have the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
