Hatched Recruitment is looking for a YOS Court Officer in the Birmingham area. 3 - 6 months contract.

1. Scope and Purpose of Role

1.1 To work as part of the Youth Offending Court Team servicing the Birmingham Youth, Magistrates and Crown Court to fulfill the statutory requirements placed on the Youth Offending Service by the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 and any proceeding legislation.

This will include:

2 The Youth Offending Service promoting the quality of its work in partnership with the Criminal Justice Agencies and the Judiciary. Influencing remand and sentencing decisions, particularly in reducing the use of remands to youth detention.

* Undertaking assessments including safeguarding and vulnerability to determine the appropriateness of placements in respect of children and young people entering the secure estate and delivering these services in line with the expectations of the Youth Justice Board.

* Enforcement of Statutory YOT Orders including preparing and conducting the prosecution of breach and revocation proceedings in court.

2.1 To represent the Youth Offending Service and promote its aims within the Court setting. This will include the presentation of verbal and written reports to aid the Court in its deliberations.

2.2 To ensure that all their actions reflect the principles of equality of treatment and sensitivity to individual needs adopted by the Youth Offending Service.

2.3 To act as advisor to the Youth Offending Teams in matters relating to the Youth, Magistrates and Crown Court ensuring that their interaction with the Court always maintains the standard required by the Youth Offending Service.

Experience

1. Experience of work within the Criminal Justice setting including the application of risk frameworks

2. Experience of working with young people who offend and their families

3. Experience of meeting the needs of varying racial and cultural communities and young women

4. Experience of report writing

5. Experience of undertaking assessments including safeguarding and vulnerability

Skills & Ability

1. Ability to produce good quality court reports.

2. Ability to co-ordinate the assessments of young people with regard to public protection prevention of offending, risk and safeguarding

3. Ability to work well in a pressurized environment, meeting short deadlines and prioritize workload accordingly

5. Good understanding of the role of a YOT Court Officer.
