Accounts Payable Controller required for an ongoing temporary opportunity based in Birmingham. To be considered for this opportunity you must be immediately available as this role requires someone who can start asap.

We are seeking an experienced Accounts Payable Controller with a strong background in the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) to support the finance team and ensure the smooth handling of financial transactions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the full cycle of Accounts Payable (AP) processes, ensuring timely and accurate payment of invoices
  • Verify and process subcontractor payments in compliance with CIS regulations
  • Maintain up-to-date records of accounts payable transactions and ensure accurate coding of invoices to the general ledger
  • Reconcile supplier statements and resolve any discrepancies or disputes
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate cost allocation and reporting for ongoing projects
  • Prepare monthly CIS returns and maintain compliance with HMRC regulations
  • Assist in the preparation of month-end close activities, including journal entries and accruals related to AP
  • Monitor AP aging reports, ensuring appropriate follow-up on outstanding balances

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven experience as an Accounts Payable Controller or in a similar role within the construction industry
  • Strong understanding and working knowledge of CIS and VAT regulations
  • Proficiency in Xero and Excel
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with internal teams and external suppliers
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and strong organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks within a fast-paced environment
  • AAT qualification or relevant accounting certification preferred but not required
