What it's like to work here

We’re a small team focussed on delivering high quality tours and experiences. Our offer includes heritage-focussed building and walking tours, as well as heritage-by-stealth activities such as kayaking and paddleboarding. We pride ourselves in offering a warm, smiley and inclusive welcome to all who pass through our gates, and this important role gives visitors the first impression of who we are. The weekends are our busiest times, particularly through the spring/summer periods when we’re delivering most of our activity. The winters can be quieter as we reduce our offer, but we still provide the same welcome to everyone who visits.

What you'll be doing

Working independently much of the time, our Visitor Centre Assistants are the first point of contact for our guests. Whether it’s a member of public visiting the building for the first time, or one of our tenants collecting their post, you will demonstrate strong customer service skills as you welcome visitors. Based in the Visitor Centre, you will learn our history and the story of the building and those who used to work here. The Visitor Centre has a small shop from where you will be selling tickets and merchandise. Your role is to make sure our visitors have the best day they can; you will check visitors onto their tours, be proactive in cross-selling other activities, process bookings, and even deliver short tours. We have a strong social media presence which you will be responsible for monitoring and updating. Responding to emails, online messages and reviews, you will manage all public enquiries ensuring prompt communication and high standards of customer care.
