Cloud Data Manager

Birmingham

This is a key role within the Digital & Technology team reporting directly to the Technical Delivery Manager. The role is predominantly concerned with the Commission’s data architecture and governance, aiming to enhance standardisation within systems and services across our Cloud platform. As a Cloud Data Manager, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing data solutions. Your tasks will include producing and maintaining data pipelines, managing data storage solutions, overseeing data processing, and facilitating seamless data integration. Additionally, your extensive data design skills may occasionally be required for projects outside of the core Azure environment. This role is crucial in leveraging cloud technologies to effectively manage and utilise data within the Gambling Commission.

Key responsibilities

You will:

- Maintain a close working relationship with both the Infrastructure and Research & Statistics teams.

- Take accountability for data storage strategies utilising Microsoft Azure's array of storage solutions, including Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Blob Storage and more.

- Develop and maintain robust data pipelines for ingesting, transforming, and processing data from various sources.

- Oversee the implementation and management of data storage solutions, ensuring optimal performance, security, and compliance.

- Manage data processing workflows and tools to extract insights and derive value from large datasets.

- Facilitate seamless integration of data across systems and applications to enable cross-functional analysis and reporting.

- Continuously monitor and optimise data solutions to enhance performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

- Implement security best practices and ensure compliance with relevant data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR) and industry standards.

- Lead and mentor a team of DBAs and analysts, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement.

- Lead and engage internal stakeholders to understand their data requirements and provide strategic guidance on leveraging cloud data services effectively

- Design scalable and efficient data solutions on the cloud platform.

Skills and experience

Essential:

- Proven experience in designing, implementing, and managing data solutions on the cloud platforms.

- In-depth knowledge of Azure data services, including Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Azure SQL Database.

- A proven track record in leading teams, communicating clear strategy and plans, giving a clear sense of direction to your team whilst developing and motivating them.

- Ability to create standards involving database architecture and governance, communicating, and getting buy in from senior stakeholders.

- Experience in maintaining the security, confidentiality and integrity of information systems through compliance with relevant legislation and regulations in line with secure by design principles.

- Experience of communicating complex technical concepts to a non-technical audience, building trust, engaging and managing expectations of stakeholders at all levels.

- Ability to regularly assess project progress to remove bottlenecks and improve the flow of the end-to-end delivery process.
