Your new company

My client is looking for an enthusiastic Principal / Associate Ecologist to join their Birmingham office to support the delivery of excellent ecological services, experience with botany and biodiversity net gain is essential. They work within a successful planning team providing an integrated service in the commercial, residential and renewable sectors.

Your new role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing and mentoring a small team of ecologists, including the co-ordination and delivery of habitat surveys, preparation of high-quality reports and metric calculations to accompany planning applications.
  • Providing a high level of technical expertise and support across the practice including the preparation and submission of ecological impact assessments.
  • Preparing, reviewing and issuing quotations, tenders and bids.
  • Support winning new business and retaining existing clients.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Proven botanical skills (FISC Level 3+) and ability to use the Biodiversity Metric to accompany planning applications
  • Interest and knowledge of protected species surveys advantageous although not essential
  • Excellent client engagement and communication skills
  • Pragmatic and technically minded
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to produce good quality technical reports
  • Knowledge and experience of health and safety issues and risk assessments
  • Demonstrable ability to liaise and work with people at all levels including clients, government bodies and team members
  • Relevant degree
  • Eligibility to work permanently within the UK
  • Full UK driving licence with access to own car for business use
  • Ability to work flexibly as required to cover surveys etc outside of normal working hours
  • Proven experience of managing or mentoring teams
  • Financial awareness with the ability to manage budgets
  • Membership of CIEEM and/or CIEMA
