We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced HV Cable Design Engineer to work on National Grid projects. This role involves both on-site presence in Birmingham and the flexibility of remote working, providing an excellent work-life balance. As an HV Cable Design Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the design, development, and implementation of high-voltage cable systems, ensuring they meet the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop high-voltage (HV) cable systems for National Grid projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project specifications.
  • Conduct detailed engineering analysis, including thermal, electrical, and mechanical calculations, to support the design and optimization of HV cable systems.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation, including design drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project managers, electrical engineers, and site personnel, to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Perform site visits and inspections as required, ensuring the proper installation and commissioning of HV cable systems.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to project teams, clients, and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in HV cable design and engineering.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Proven experience in HV cable design engineering, preferably within the energy or utilities sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant standards and regulations, including IEC, BS, and National Grid specifications.
  • Proficiency in using design software and tools such as CYMCAP, AutoCAD, and other relevant engineering applications.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform detailed technical calculations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
