I am working with a local council to recruit a Finance Improvement Manager. This is an interim Position for an initial 6-month contract.You will be working on the Finance Improvement & Recovery programme that focusses on raising the standards of financial management within the Council. It will systematically diagnose and correct the organisation's financial management issues, while delivering quick wins along the way enables improved management. The programme will drive efficient and effective working, to achieve appropriate income collection targets, process payments on time, and meet a range of other measurable standards. It will work alongside the Oracle Programme and other council strategic transformation initiatives, ensuring that finance recovery and improvement work is co-ordinated with other activities.

Key attributes (Must haves)

  • Accountancy qualification (CIPFA or equivalent).
  • Extensive knowledge of best practice standards in local government financial management and good wider working knowledge of a variety of areas such as procurement, internal audit, council companies.
  • The ability to draw on contacts and evidence from elsewhere to benchmark, identify professional and operational standards and know the art of the possible
  • Used to working on a disciplined and methodical programme - systematic in nature and able to hold others to account to follow agreed processes and procedures
  • A track record of successfully delivering service improvement and transformation in a local authority or public sector context.
