Customs Clerk 

Monday - Friday: 8.30AM - 5.00PM

Annual Salary between £30,000 - £35,000

Our client based in Birmingham are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Customs Clerk to manage all aspects of customs processes for both import and export operations.

This role is essential for ensuring that all customs procedures are completed accurately and in compliance with national and international regulations.

Day to Day Duties

Key Responsibilities:

  •  Accurately prepare and submit all necessary customs documents for import and export activities.
  •  Ensure compliance with the New Computerised Transit System (NCTS) and Customs Declaration Service (CDS).
  •  Liaise with customers, providing guidance and support on customs-related matters to ensure smooth clearance and delivery of shipments.
  •  Work closely with other team members to ensure a seamless flow of goods through various transportation channels.
  •  Stay up-to-date with changes in regulations and laws related to customs and import/export procedures.
  •  Resolve any customs-related issues that may arise in a timely and effective manner.
  •  Maintain records of all customs transactions for auditing and compliance purposes.

Essential Skills

  •  Proven experience in customs clearance, ideally within a freight forwarding or logistics environment.
  •  Proficiency in using customs software systems.
  •  In-depth understanding of customs regulations and procedures.
  •  Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  •  Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to handle queries and provide solutions promptly.
  •  Forwarding knowledge and experience are highly beneficial.
  •  Strong communication skills to interact with internal teams and external partners.

Desirable Experience

  •  Proficiency in using customs software systems.
