An independent building and project consultancy is seeking an experienced Principal Designer to join their team, working primarily remotely with access to four offices nearby if needed. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a variety of brand-new projects while enjoying flexibility and the support of a collaborative, forward-thinking consultancy.

With primarily remote work, occasional site visits and the chance to work on diverse and high-profile developments, this role offers an excellent balance of independence and teamwork.

The Principal Designer Role

As Principal Designer, you will take a lead role in ensuring compliance with CDM 2015 regulations and integrating health and safety into the design and construction phases. Working closely with clients, design teams, and contractors, you'll manage design risk and provide expert CDM advice across a range of innovative projects.

Principal Designer Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver Principal Designer duties in line with CDM 2015 regulations.
  • Conduct design risk assessments and develop hazard elimination strategies.
  • Prepare and review pre-construction information and construction phase plans.
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors, and design teams to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Attend occasional site visits to monitor compliance and ensure safety standards are met.
  • Provide expert CDM and health and safety advice throughout the project lifecycle.

The Principal Designer

  • 2 + years' experience as a Principal Designer
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent qualification.
  • Professional membership with APS (AaPS, IMaPS, or CMaPS) is desirable.
  • Proven experience as a Principal Designer, preferably within a consultancy environment.
  • Strong understanding of CDM 2015 regulations and health and safety practices.
  • Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
