An opportunity for a Health & Safety Manager has become available with one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of metal products.Based in Birmingham, you will join a large manufacturing site and will be responsible for all Health & Safety activities as well as training to staff on H&S best practices, procedures as well as training users of site vehicles such as FLT’s, cranes and mobile platforms. Relevant training for certificates and licences will be provided. NEBOSH certification is essential for this role.Health & Safety Manager – Responsibilities.
  • Advise the Company on statutory requirements and best practice to follow in respect of Health & Safety and training in order that the Company and its employees are effectively protected and developed.
  • Chairman of Health & Safety meetings and accident / near miss enquiries.
  • Develop and maintain as necessary the Company Health & Safety policy.
  • Ensure risk assessments and standard operating procedures are maintained.
  • Create and promote strict adherence to safety rules, guidelines and best practice in accordance with changing legislation and best practice.
  • The development and maintenance of Occupational Health and Safety methods
  • Establish, maintain and deliver robust training schedule to facilitate all operator training requirements such as FLT’s, Cranes, Mobile work platforms, Breathing apparatus etc.
  • To take the lead role in the responsibility for fire safety on site.
  • Liaise with the Engineering department to ensure changes to plant and equipment on site and procedures carried out by engineering personnel or contractors comply with safety requirements.
  • Liaise with the HSE over inspections and visits and liaise with Environmental Agency over remediation issues and authority permits.
  • Contact with Local Authority Environmental Health and Health & Safety Teams over relevant issues affecting the site.
  • Liaison with Insurance Companies and Brokers over Employer Liability Insurance and point of contact for all matters relating to employee claims against the Company.
  • Identify training needs and organise individual and group induction and training on/off site as required.
Health & Safety Manager - Skills & Experience Required.
  • Proven H&S background overseeing large industrial manufacturing sites
  • Accredited Health & Safety NEBOSH qualification – Essential
  • Experience of a high volume, and small batch manufacture
  • Experience gained withing a results focused production manufacturing environment
  • RTITB and ITSSAR highly desirable – Training provided where required
