HAYS are delighted to be working with Birmingham City Council to recruit an interim Service Lead for Public Health, on a 3-month contract basis with the potential for extension beyond this period. My client is seeking an experienced and dedicated Service Lead for the Older People's team to cover for sick leave. This role is crucial in supporting the division and may involve additional projects, potentially extending the contract duration. This role is paying up to £600 per day (inside IR35), and the successful candidate would be office based in Birmingham once a week.

The key responsibilities of this role are:

  • Team and Budget Management: Lead a small team of 5 people and manage the budget, covering areas such as ageing well, Compassionate Cities, Workplace health, and links with Adult Social Care and Neighbourhood Networks.
  • Strategy Development: Mobilise the development of the Birmingham Ageing Well Strategy 2025 to 2030, bringing together parties to advance the strategy's vision of creating a vibrant, inclusive city for ageing well.
  • Partnership Establishment: Establish a citywide Ageing Well Partnership across Birmingham as a sub-forum of the Health and Wellbeing Partnership.
  • Policy Development: Understand and implement public health principles, develop policies, and lead multi-agency teams.
  • Project Support: Undertake additional projects as needed to support the division.

In order to be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Senior Practitioner Level: Extensive experience in public health, particularly in the ageing well agenda.
  • Health and Social Care Knowledge: Strong understanding of health and social care systems and priorities.
  • Commissioning and Partnership Experience: Experience in commissioning and partnership work.
  • Public Health Principles: Solid grasp of public health principles, policy development, and leading multi-agency teams.
  • Flexible Availability: Ability to start early March, with interviews ideally on Thursday/Friday of this week.
