Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant or a recent graduate with a passion for supporting children whose first language is not English?

LTF Recruitment is currently seeking an EAL (English as an Additional Language) Teaching Assistant to join the dedicated SEND team at an inclusive and welcoming primary school in the Kings Heath area.

The successful candidate will work within Key Stage 1, providing targeted interventions for children who require support in acquiring English language skills. You will assist students in developing their phonics abilities and offer in-class support to ensure they can fully access and engage with the curriculum.

The Role:

  • Support Key Stage 1 pupils with EAL needs, concentrating on phonics and early language development.
  • Lead targeted morning interventions to help children enhance their language skills.
  • Provide in-class support during afternoon lessons, assisting children in accessing the curriculum and actively participating in classroom activities.
  • Foster a nurturing, inclusive environment that encourages engagement and learning.
  • Implement personalised learning plans as directed by the class teacher and SENCo.
  • Assist children in developing their English language skills and accessing lessons effectively.
  • Track and record children's progress, offering regular updates to the class teacher and SENCo.

Who we are looking for:

  • A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting children with EAL needs.
  • Strong understanding of phonics and language acquisition strategies.
  • Good knowledge of the UK primary curriculum.
  • TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) qualification is desirable but not essential.
  • Bilingual candidates who speak Romanian, Punjabi, or Polish would be highly beneficial for this role.
