Oscar Technology has partnered with a charitable organisation based in Birmingham to recruit a skilled 1st/2nd Line Support Engineer to join their team. This is a hybrid role with an opportunity to work from home up to 2 days a week.

Job Description

As a 1st/2nd Line Support Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the company's effective delivery of the Help Desk services. You will work closely with the IT team to resolve issues and ensure the smooth operation of company and customer systems.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Monitoring & dealing with issues raised in the logging system and directly through the phone.
  • Providing 1st/2nd line support for IT incidents and requests, ensuring timely resolution and user satisfaction.
  • Managing and administering Windows 10/11 desktop environments, including installation, configuration, and patching.
  • Maintaining IT security protocols, including antivirus management, user authentication.
  • Supporting Microsoft Exchange and email services, including spam filtering and cloud continuity/messaging services.
  • Documenting technical processes and user support procedures for internal reference.
  • Flexibility when needed in terms of working times and out-of-hours cover.

Essential Skills:

  • Knowledge around desktop and laptop hardware, operating systems and software applications.
  • Proficiency with core Microsoft Windows desktop environments and Windows Server.
  • Understanding of IT Security principles and practices (Understanding of firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and secure network setups to protect against unauthorized access).
  • Familiarity with networking skills such as LAN/WAN technologies, TCP/IP.

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of Windows Group Policies and Active Directory.
  • Familiarity with Endpoint Central, McAfee/Trellix Security, WebMarshal, and Veeam.
  • Knowledge with virtualization technologies such as VMWare and Hyper-V.
  • SQL Server
