1st Line Support Engineer
Savvy enough to want to work as an Infrastructure Engineer, but lacking relevant work experience? Our IT Infrastructure Skills training is tailored made for you. This initial training will give you the foundational knowledge you need for this opportunity with Intercity.
We will be equipping you with the skills and knowledge you’ll need for this opportunity. Designed as a springboard for your future career with Intercity, you’ll benefit from live online sessions delivered by our team of expert trainers. As the programme unfolds, we’ll start preparing you for interview stage and give you all the necessary skills you need for the interview off the back off what you have learnt from the course.
The Role…
You will be part of a warm, friendly, and forward-thinking team responsible for supporting with all things IT Infrastructure. No day will be the same in what is a fast-paced, exciting new role, with the successful candidates naturally striving to provide great customer service to both external and internal stakeholders. You will be meticulous and patient in your approach; keen to live and breathe company values, and with the ambition and drive to grow and develop.
The typical roles and responsibilities will include:
- Technical - troubleshoot desktop and system problems, diagnose, and solve hardware/software issues.
- Manage Helpdesk - ensure help desk tickets are logged, escalated, and resolved in a timely manner.
- User Management - administer applications for user accounts.
- Web - assist customers with technical web-related queries.
- Types of malware and attacks, password security, Infrastructure (securing networks and hardware/ securing software) , cryptography , security vulnerabilities.

We appreciate you will likely be at the very beginning of your IT career, so provided you’re able to confidently demonstrate your interest in the subject, we’ll be more focused on your passion for learning/development and natural fit with our core values, rather than being able to evidence a significant degree of pre-existing technical knowledge. You will need to have the right to live and work in the UK, be based within the West Midlands, and be over the age of 19.
