This is your chance to be part of an exciting journey at a new bank, contributing to shaping the future of the business and its lending proposition.About the RoleAs a Senior Underwriter, you will be responsible for assessing and recommending lending decisions for both regulated and non-regulated retail mortgages (residential and BTL). With a focus on credit risk, policy reviews, and loan book monitoring, you will support the Head of Credit Risk and Senior Management team in managing the deal flow and ensuring high standards across the board.You'll have the unique opportunity to be fully involved in the design and build of new processes, procedures, and documentation, helping the bank set industry-leading standards.Key Responsibilities
  • Assess credit risk and provide recommendations to the Senior Management and Credit Committee on lending decisions.
  • Contribute to the credit risk appetite process and report on credit risk matters, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Work alongside the Business Development Team to provide timely credit risk assessments.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure accurate record-keeping and regulatory compliance.
  • Contribute to continuous improvements in credit processes, ensuring efficient turnaround times and quality delivery.
  • Provide training and coaching to team members to elevate their skillsets.
  • Develop the Bank’s credit risk policies and support the identification of early warning indicators for potential defaults.
  • Be the main liaison for internal and external auditors on credit risk matters.
Key Skills and Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in Manual Credit Underwriting, preferably in retail mortgages (both regulated and non-regulated).
  • Experience managing problem debt, arrears, and forbearance.
  • In-depth knowledge of credit risk, financials, credit reports, and valuation assessments.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Experience working in a start-up or fast-paced environment is preferred.
