Senior Underwriter

Location: Birmingham, hybrid (2-3 days per week in-office)

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Underwriter to join our team and play a key role in managing the deal flow, underwriting processes, policy reviews, and loan book monitoring.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite lending applications to a high standard, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, pragmatism, and delegated authority.
  • Manage the underwriting process from start to finish, ensuring smooth deal flow and timely decision-making.
  • Assist the Head of Credit Risk in ongoing policy reviews, process improvements, and operational readiness as the business continues to grow.
  • Contribute to the design and development of new underwriting processes, procedures, and supporting documentation.
  • Monitor and manage the loan book, ensuring that all applications are effectively underwritten and risks are appropriately managed.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment across business units and provide guidance on complex underwriting matters.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to shape and implement strategic initiatives for future growth.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Extensive experience in credit underwriting, with a strong background in managing and assessing lending applications.
  • Proven ability to underwrite complex loan applications in line with regulatory guidelines and internal policies.
  • Strong understanding of credit risk and experience in managing a loan book effectively.
  • Ability to influence process and policy improvements within a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects in parallel.
  • Experience in contributing to the design and implementation of new processes and operational procedures is a plus.
  • Knowledge of industry regulations and compliance requirements.
