Senior Planner

Birmingham

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Senior Planner to join a leading planning consultancy in Birmingham. If you are a motivated planning professional looking to work on a diverse range of projects and take the next step in your career, this role could be perfect for you.

The Role

As part of a highly respected planning team, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality planning advice to a variety of clients, including housebuilders, developers, land promoters, investors, universities, and public sector organisations. The team works on a broad range of projects, from managing planning applications and appeals to promoting sites through Local Plans and providing strategic planning advice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake planning appraisals to assess development potential.
  • Research, analyse, and prepare client-facing reports and planning documents.
  • Support and manage project teams, coordinating with architects and external consultants.
  • Prepare and submit planning applications, Local Plan representations, and planning appeals.
  • Represent clients in discussions with planning authorities, stakeholders, and at Planning Committees.
  • Assist in the preparation of proofs of evidence for planning inquiries.
  • Identify new business opportunities and contribute to business development efforts.
  • Work on a variety of projects, balancing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

About You

We are looking for a chartered or near-chartered town planner with a strong understanding of both development management and planning policy. You will be commercially aware, highly organised, and an excellent communicator.

Essential Requirements:

  • RTPI-accredited degree in Town Planning, Geography, or a related subject.
  • MRTPI or working towards chartership.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in either the private or public sector.
  • Experience preparing and submitting planning applications and appeals.
  • Knowledge of Local Plan promotion and planning policy development.
  • Strong report-writing, research, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and work independently or within a team.
