Regulatory & Business Defence Solicitor – Associate/Senior Associate | 2–7 PQE | Birmingham

A nationally recognised legal and professional services group is seeking a talented Regulatory & Business Defence Solicitor to join its growing team in Birmingham.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Solicitor with 2–7 years’ PQE and a background in either criminal defence or regulatory law. You’ll be working alongside highly experienced partners and specialists on complex, high-profile investigations involving health & safety, white-collar crime and environmental regulation. Ideal for a technically strong and commercially astute lawyer looking to deepen their expertise in regulatory defence.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Advising on a wide range of regulatory and business defence matters
  • Handling investigations and prosecutions involving HSE, Environment Agency, Trading Standards, EHO, Fire & Rescue, SFO, NCA and other bodies
  • Representing clients at interviews under caution, court hearings and Coroner’s Inquests
  • Advising on incidents such as pollution breaches, corporate manslaughter, fraud, bribery and fire safety failures
  • Supporting compliance work under the Building Safety Act
  • Working closely with colleagues and clients across sectors including construction, manufacturing, food, leisure and retail

What we’re looking for:

  • 2–7 years’ PQE, ideally in criminal, regulatory or health & safety law
  • Experience with criminal investigations and proceedings is essential; regulatory defence experience is highly desirable
  • Strong advocacy and negotiation skills with the ability to manage sensitive and complex matters
  • Willingness to learn across a broad spectrum of regulatory disciplines
  • Excellent interpersonal and client-handling skills
  • A team player with a collaborative mindset and strong commercial awareness
