Specialist Learning Mentor

Long Term Futures is seeking a Specialist Learning Mentor to support mixed-age pupils within a Resource Base at a welcoming mainstream primary school in Edgbaston. The successful candidate will work alongside the class teacher to support teaching and learning, assist children with SEN, and help manage behaviour within the group. This full-time role runs Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm during term time and is initially long-term, with the potential to become a permanent position for the right person.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to mixed-age pupils, particularly those with SEN and behavioural needs
  • Deliver focused small-group interventions to help students progress
  • Offer one-to-one mentoring for children with Autism, ADHD, or lower learning levels
  • Collaborate with the class teacher and SENCO to track progress and refine support strategies
  • Assist students working both below and above age-related expectations
  • Promote a positive, inclusive learning environment in line with the school's values

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Relevant degree or Teaching Assistant qualification
  • Experience supporting SEN children in a primary school setting
  • Strong understanding of SEN and behavioural needs; DSL experience is a plus
  • Flexible and adaptable to meet the individual needs of students
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents to foster a collaborative learning environment
