Family AssistantBirmingham - Office Based£22,000 - £25,000 A fantastic, established Birmingham firm, known to us as a client for many years are keen to add an experienced Legal Assistant to their already impressive Family team.Based in well-equipped offices in an impressive setting, close to commuter links, the Legal Assistant will benefit from working with a cohesive team of Assistants, Fee Earners and Partners to deliver a high quality of a full range of Legal Assistant Duties in Birmingham. Duties and responsibilities of the Assistant in Family:

  • Supporting the Solicitors and Partners within the team with their caseload 
  • Drafting notices in line with client instructions
  • To register interests on Common Platform regarding criminal matters.  Be familiar with Egress, CJSM and Crown Court Digital Case System
  • Use of ALB Case Management System
  • Attending PLO’s
  • Making applications for legal aid and keeping on top of CCMS
  • Making any necessary applications for payments of disbursements
  • Liaising with the firms Cost Drafting Team regarding High Cost Cases
  • Taking instructions from clients in person, via Teams etc
  • Preparing and Drafting Position Statements
  • Instructing Counsel, where necessary
  • Researching and instructing other experts
  • Preparing briefs to counsel or letters of instructions to experts
  • Part 25 applications and letters of instruction
  • Sitting behind counsel
  • Observing Senior Fee Earner at court
  • Compiling Bundles and ensuring they are always up to date (Electronically)

Skills Required:

  • Prior Family Assistant experience is essential
  • Competent in all IT applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Strong attention to detail and a clear communication style (both written and verbal)
  • Good time management skills and the ability to manage and prioritise a range of tasks
  • Commitment to good customer service
  • Good empathy skills and the ability to deal with a range of different personality types when working with clients and witnesses
  • Commitment to meeting or exceeding personal targets
  • Willing to listen and learn
  • Good team player with a willingness to assist colleagues
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, committed and approachable
  • Ability to remain calm and professional when under pressure
