Smart Education are seeking a compassionate, motivated, and dedicated individual to join our team as an intervenor. The intervenor will be responsible for assisting a Deafblind young person in leading a full and active life. The role involves supporting daily activities at home and in the community, ensuring access to learning, social experiences, and leisure pursuits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support access to learning and social opportunities, exploring new activities and interests.
- Communicate effectively using Total Communication methods, including augmentative communication and ICT.
- Act as a sighted guide, following mobility and orientation advice from professionals.
- Provide daily care and support with health needs.
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring a collaborative approach.
- Maintain accurate records of daily activities.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Understanding of multi-sensory impairments (MSI) and related needs.
- Enjoyment of working with young people with MSI and an ability to communicate effectively with them.
- Intervenor training or willingness to undertake training which can be provided
- Ability to communicate with young people using various communication methods.
- Strong communication skills and accurate record-keeping
Duties and Responsibilities:
- You will support and empower people to identify their goals, pursue their interests and hobbies, support their health and wellbeing, and be a part of their local community
- To offer positive behaviour support to individuals who express their frustrations and needs through challenging behaviour by using appropriate strategies
- Understanding their communication needs and adapting communication to each individual: sounds, tones, body language
- To offer unconditional positive regard to individuals, to respect right to privacy and to ensure that their dignity is maintained at all times
