Sonic Summary

info
  • Our client is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer in the Midlands with 5+ years of experience in domestic, residential, commercial, and education sectors.
  • The position offers a salary range of £40,000 - £55,000, along with contractual and work-winning bonuses, paid overtime, and 25 days of annual leave that increases with service.
  • Candidates should have a solid background in designing with steel, concrete, masonry, and timber, with proficiency in Tekla structural design and Robot software being highly desirable.
  • The role includes a flexible work setup allowing 3-5 days of remote work per week, fostering a better work-life balance, but requires self-motivation and strong communication skills.
  • The firm emphasizes a strong company culture, involving all team members in various project stages and organizing regular social events to maintain team cohesion.

Our client stands out as a truly unique employer. They are deeply committed to their employees and genuinely offer better working arrangements than most firms. Their goal is to expand their current team of six full-time engineers to 10+ through natural growth-focused on the right projects while maintaining their strong company culture.

The firm works on a wide range of projects, from 100k to 20m, and all team members are involved in every stage, from winning the project to completion. Currently, they are seeking to appoint a Senior Structural Engineer in the Midlands.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 5+ years of experience, with a focus in the following sectors:
    • Domestic
    • Residential
    • Commercial
    • Education

Desirable experience includes:

  • Experience with smaller-scale projects (under 1m) and, in particular, refurbishment work, which is the core of the business.
  • Chartered or close to chartered status, with the ability to conduct site visits independently and work autonomously on basic design tasks.
  • A solid background in designing with steel, concrete, masonry, and timber; expertise in timber or concrete is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Tekla structural design and Robot software is highly desirable.
  • A keen interest in business development, including generating new business, writing proposals, and approaching potential clients.

Our client also offers a flexible work setup, allowing up to 3-5 days of remote working per week, providing a better work-life balance compared to most employers. However, this flexibility requires self-motivation and a proactive approach. Strong communication skills are key, as most interactions take place via Teams or phone calls.

You will be an integral part of the 2-person Midlands team, with a larger team of four based in London. Despite being based in different locations, the remote-working culture creates a tight-knit team, and regular social events are organized-such as a two-day trip to a private lake in the Cotswolds last summer.

While you may initially work across projects in both the Midlands and London, your primary focus will be Midlands-based projects. The Midlands team currently works together in a flexible office space in the Jewellery Quarter once a week, and this arrangement is expected to continue for the foreseeable future.

On offer:

  • Salary: 40,000 - 55,000.
  • Contractual Bonus + Work Winning Bonus.
  • Paid Overtime.
  • 25 days annual leave (increases by one day per year of service).
  • Private Healthcare.
