We are an inclusive primary school in Erdington, Birmingham, dedicated to providing a high-quality education to children in Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2). We are seeking a talented Key Stage 1 Teacher with experience in supporting children with Special Educational Needs (SEN). We are working in partnership with Applebough Education to help bring in the best educators to continue our mission.

Role Overview:

As a Key Stage 1 Teacher with SEN experience, you will be responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing high-quality lessons for students in Years 1 and 2, while ensuring the needs of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) are met. Your role will involve working closely with the SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and other staff members to create an inclusive learning environment. The successful candidate will be passionate about delivering an engaging curriculum while supporting students with diverse needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Planning and Teaching: Plan, teach, and assess high-quality lessons for Key Stage 1 students, tailoring activities to meet the needs of all learners, including those with SEN.

  • Differentiation and SEN Support: Adapt lessons to ensure all students, particularly those with SEN, can access the curriculum and make progress. Provide additional support, interventions, and differentiated activities for children with specific needs.

  • Personalized Learning: Work closely with the SENCo to implement and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and ensure that appropriate strategies are in place to support the development of SEN students.

  • Classroom Management: Create and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel safe, valued, and encouraged to participate in lessons.

  • Monitoring and Assessment: Regularly assess students' progress, particularly those with SEN, using a variety of assessment tools. Provide feedback to students, parents, and staff on progress and areas for improvement.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with other teachers, teaching assistants, and the SENCo to deliver tailored interventions and strategies to support SEN students.

  • Parent Communication: Maintain effective communication with parents and carers of SEN students, providing updates on progress, behavior, and any concerns.

  • Professional Development: Participate in relevant training and professional development opportunities, including those provided through our partnership with Applebough Education, to further enhance your knowledge and skills in SEN and inclusive teaching.

  • Contribute to School Life: Take an active role in school events and extracurricular activities, supporting the wider school community.

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.

  • Proven experience teaching in Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2).

  • Experience working with students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including a good understanding of different types of SEN (e.g., autism, ADHD, dyslexia, emotional and behavioral needs).

  • Knowledge of strategies and interventions to support children with SEN, including experience with IEPs and working with support staff.

  • Strong classroom management skills, particularly in an inclusive setting.

  • Ability to differentiate teaching to meet the needs of all learners, including those with SEN.

  • Excellent communication skills to work effectively with children, parents, colleagues, and external agencies.

  • A passion for supporting the educational and emotional development of children with diverse learning needs.

Desirable:

  • SEN-specific training or qualifications, such as a qualification in Special Educational Needs (e.g., Level 3 SEN qualification, Makaton, PECS).

  • Experience working with students with complex needs or those requiring specific interventions (e.g., social skills groups, speech and language support).

  • Experience using specific educational tools for SEN students (e.g., assistive technology, sensory tools).

  • First Aid qualification or willingness to obtain one
