Job Title - Driver

Hours - Monday - Friday, 09:00am to 17:00pm

Location - Birmingham

Salary - £11.44 - £13.13 per hour - Enhanced rate for Saturdays and Sundays

Our client is currently looking for a Driver to join their team on a temporary basis, initially for three months but has the potential to be longer. This role is working 37.5 hours per week, and you will be responsible for the delivery and fitting of equipment.

As the Driver, you will be required to:

  • Transporting patients safely, following all traffic laws and driving regulations. This includes safely loading and unloading patients, often with the help of stretchers, wheelchairs, or other mobility aids.
  • Ensuring the comfort of patients during transport is essential. You may need to assist patients in and out of the vehicle, making sure they are secure and comfortable during the ride.
  • Maintaining communication with dispatchers, healthcare staff, and sometimes the patients' families to coordinate pick-up and drop-off times and handle any potential delays or changes in plans.
  • Checking the vehicle’s condition, including ensuring that the vehicle is clean, well-maintained, and equipped with necessary safety features such as seatbelts, ramps, or medical equipment.
  • Documenting transportation details, such as mileage, trip duration, and patient information and keeping logs of patient trips and any incidents that occur during transport.
  • Monitor patients for any signs of medical distress during the ride and be prepared to contact emergency services if necessary. Some patient transport drivers may have basic first aid or CPR training to handle emergencies.
  • You will be responsible for maintaining hygiene and cleanliness, especially when transporting patients with infectious diseases, by adhering to health and safety protocols.
  • You may be required to assist in lifting or transferring patients, particularly those with mobility challenges, so proper handling techniques are important to prevent injury to both the driver and the patient.
  • Respecting patient confidentiality and treating them with kindness and compassion are crucial, especially when dealing with vulnerable individuals.

Person Specification:

  • Minimum 2 years driving experience
  • Dexterity to fit equipment, especially in tight spaces
  • Manual Handling
  • Be able to schedule work to achieve maximum deliveries
  • Experience of driving a transit type van
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Working without supervision
  • Willing and motivated
  • Sensitive to others especially in stressful situations
  • Flexible to suit the needs of the service
