We are seeking a detail-oriented and conscientious Payroll Assistant to join our client's evolving team based in Birmingham. This is a full-time, permanent position, working patterns Monday - Friday (9am - 5pm), working 2-3 days in office per week, with work from home options also, for a little extra flexibility!

As a Payroll Assistant, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for a large and diverse workforce, as well as supporting a range of benefit administration tasks. You'll work within a collaborative team and report directly to the Payroll Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Processing monthly payroll for up to 2000 employees and up to 500 pensioners.

  • Managing various deductions (DEO, AEO, CMS)

  • Administering benefit schemes, including cycle to work, private healthcare, car schemes, and long service awards

  • Ensuring accurate data handling for pension schemes and salary sacrifice arrangements

  • Producing reports and managing P11D data

  • Reconciling payroll outputs and stakeholder payments

  • Supporting compliance with control standards and audit processes

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Full end-to-end payroll processing

  • Knowledge of current payroll legislation, tax, NI, NMW, and statutory entitlements

  • Handling salary sacrifice and various deduction schemes

  • Communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders

  • Familiarity with various payroll systems, IRIS desirable

  • Experience with car schemes and pensioner payroll

  • Understanding of settlement agreements

Skills & Attributes:

  • Highly accurate with excellent attention to detail

  • Organised, dependable, and approachable

  • Able to work independently and within a team

  • CIPP Level 2 or AAT Level 1 qualification (or working towards)
