Payroll Officer – 12 month FTCBirmingham£30,000 p/a  JGA are delighted to be working with a fantastic organisation in the public sector looking to add a Payroll Officer to its team for a 12 month fixed term contract.  Responsibilities include:
  • Responsible for the day to day administration of large sized various payroll accurately
  • Processing starters/leavers, sickness, and all other necessary amendments as and when required.
  • Using payroll software efficiently for payroll and reporting purposes
  • To process all types of manual payroll calculations, payments and deductions
  • To have an extensive knowledge of Gross pay, Net pay, PAYE/NIC, tax code changes, student loans and statutory payments e.g. redundancy, SMP, SAP, SPP and SSP etc.
  • Compare monthly pay reports to flag/resolve any variance or anomalies.
  • Support and assist the line manager on a daily basis and provide reports
  • To be able to plan and meet the payroll deadline every month with maximum accuracy
  • Proactively develop and keep up to date with new payroll legislation
  • Carry out payroll reconciliations and analysis
  • Liaise with third parties including HMRC and assist with enquiries when they arise
  • Develops and maintain relationships with internal and external contacts at all levels.
  Skills & experience required:
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a medium to large payroll environment
  • Knowledge of Tax, National Insurance, SSP, SMP, SPP and SAP
  • Good knowledge of what excellent service looks and feels like.
  • Itrent or similar Payroll system literate
  • Experience of developing and maintaining standard operating procedures
  • IT literate, including the effective use of MS Office
  • Possess a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Highly motivated and resourceful with excellent problem-solving skills
  • Can work in a high-pressured environment
