- Any employment gaps longer than 28 days will require a gap reference from someone who has known the individual for at least two years (this can be a friend or neighbor, but not a partner, family member, or someone they live with).
- If you were unemployed and claiming benefits, we will need copies of benefit statements for the entire period (certain security vetting processes may also require a gap reference in this case).
- If unemployed and not claiming benefits but working on an ad-hoc basis for friends or family, a gap reference will be required.
- For self-employed individuals, we will need either confirmation from HMRC of account submissions, or a letter from your accountant or solicitor confirming you were providing services.
