The Role
As a Planning Consultant, the successful candidate will provide expert advice, guidance, and assessments to a range of customers, including users of the national Planning Portal. This role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic and growing team, delivering specialist planning services to professionals, developers, local planning authorities, applicants, and the public.
Key Responsibilities:
Providing online/remote planning advice and guidance on general and specific planning matters.
Preparing for customer meetings by accessing local planning policy and history documents from Local Planning Authority websites.
Producing written summaries and reports following consultations, referencing planning policies, history, constraints, and recommendations.
Completing delegated and committee planning application reports in line with Key Performance Indicators.
Communicating and negotiating effectively with applicants and agents regarding planning applications and post-refusal advice.
Using back-office systems to update applications and maintain records of site visits and evaluations.
Updating customer enquiry databases and meeting KPI targets.
Attending and reporting into monthly team meetings and weekly case conferences.
Maintaining high productivity, efficiency, and accuracy while meeting daily production targets.
Undertaking additional tasks and duties within the scope and grade of the post.
What They Are Looking For
Essential Qualifications and Skills:
Relevant BA degree or equivalent RTPI Certified Planning Course.
Excellent oral communication skills, with confidence in providing advice to professionals, customers, and the public.
Strong time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
Ability to analyse plans against local, regional, and national planning policy, and produce clear, concise, and accurate reports.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills for liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
Desirable Experience:
At least 6 months' experience in planning applications within a Planning Authority or the private sector.
