The Role

As a Planning Consultant, the successful candidate will provide expert advice, guidance, and assessments to a range of customers, including users of the national Planning Portal. This role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic and growing team, delivering specialist planning services to professionals, developers, local planning authorities, applicants, and the public.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing online/remote planning advice and guidance on general and specific planning matters.

  • Preparing for customer meetings by accessing local planning policy and history documents from Local Planning Authority websites.

  • Producing written summaries and reports following consultations, referencing planning policies, history, constraints, and recommendations.

  • Completing delegated and committee planning application reports in line with Key Performance Indicators.

  • Communicating and negotiating effectively with applicants and agents regarding planning applications and post-refusal advice.

  • Using back-office systems to update applications and maintain records of site visits and evaluations.

  • Updating customer enquiry databases and meeting KPI targets.

  • Attending and reporting into monthly team meetings and weekly case conferences.

  • Maintaining high productivity, efficiency, and accuracy while meeting daily production targets.

  • Undertaking additional tasks and duties within the scope and grade of the post.



What They Are Looking For



Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Relevant BA degree or equivalent RTPI Certified Planning Course.

  • Excellent oral communication skills, with confidence in providing advice to professionals, customers, and the public.

  • Strong time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.

  • Ability to analyse plans against local, regional, and national planning policy, and produce clear, concise, and accurate reports.

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills for liaising with internal and external stakeholders.



Desirable Experience:

  • At least 6 months' experience in planning applications within a Planning Authority or the private sector.
