Procurement Lead

£45,000-50,000 per annum DOE

Birmingham

Jackson Hogg Procurement division are delighted to be exclusively partnering with a small manufacturing organisation in Birmingham of the appointment of a Procurement Lead. This is a full time and permanent role offering up to £50,000 per annum DOE. The role will be based on site and the working hours are Monday to Friday 08.00-16.30.

This is a stand alone procurement role so we are looking for a strong negotiator, who enjoys fostering long-term relationships with suppliers and would thrive managing the full procurement spend and making supply chain efficiencies.

Procurement Strategy & Management:

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with the company’s manufacturing goals.
  • Manage end-to-end procurement processes for components and services required for production.
  • Oversee supplier selection, evaluation, and onboarding to ensure the highest quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Establish and manage Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with suppliers and distributors to ensure consistent delivery, quality, and performance.

Supplier & distributor relationship management:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to secure long-term, reliable partnerships.
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and delivery terms to optimize cost savings and ensure timely supply.
  • Monitor supplier and distributor performance through regular reviews, audits, and compliance assessments.

Operational oversight & inventory control:

  • Check all deliveries for quality and quantity, ensuring proper mark-up and timely put away.
  • Ensure that the ERP system is up to date with accurate procurement and inventory records.
  • Maintain optimal levels of stock to support continuous production while minimizing excess inventory.

Cost management & analysis

  • Conduct market research and trend analysis to identify opportunities for cost reduction and quality improvement.
  • Negotiate advantageous credit terms with suppliers to optimize working capital.
  • Develop and monitor procurement budgets, ensuring adherence to financial targets.
  • Implement and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate procurement effectiveness and efficiency.

Collaboration & cross-functional coordination

  • Work closely with production, logistics and sales teams to ensure seamless supply chain operations.
  • Participate in strategic planning and process improvement initiatives to enhance overall manufacturing operations.

Risk management & compliance:

  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with supply chain disruptions, market fluctuations, and supplier reliability.
  • Develop contingency plans and alternative sourcing strategies to maintain uninterrupted production.

The Person/Specification:

  • At least 5 years' experience in Purchasing-related roles
  • Background in manufacturing/production environments
  • Proven negotiation skills
  • Ability to foster strong relationships internally and externally
  • Comfortable managing full purchasing responsibility
  • Ambitious mindset with willingness to support other departments where needed
